Xbox 360 | Crackdown 2 drops July 6

Ruffian-developed follow-up to Xbox 360-exclusive hybrid shooter-platformer slightly delayed; arrives in Asia and Australia July 8, UK and Europe July 9. This morning, Microsoft announced that Crackdown 2 will miss its previously announced, first-half-of-2010 release window …by not by much.

Wii | 10 million-plus Wiis sold in Japan

Famitsu publisher Enterbrain says Nintendo’s console has sold 289,736 units in two months in the island nation. The month of January ended with Nintendo announcing it had shipped 67.45 million Wiis worldwide as of December 31, 2009

Xbox 360 | Microsoft patents muscle-control tech

Dual USPTO filings show Xbox 360 maker is looking into wearable controllers activated by muscles’ electrical signals; Guitar Hero shown in demo video. Although Project Natal likely won’t be released until later in the year, Microsoft is already looking into new gaming control schemes. Tech blog TechFlash has spotted two US Patent and Trademark Office applications that may go one step further than the controller-less, camera-based motion-sensing system–by directly reading electric impulses from gamers’ muscles.

Xbox 360 | Datel suing Microsoft over memory-unit lockout

British maker of high-capacity, low-price storage units takes legal action against software giant, accusing it of antitrust violation. In October, Microsoft revealed that the fall Xbox Live Update would lock out what director of programming Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb termed ” unauthorized Memory Units .” Though not mentioned by name, the company most affected by the move was Datel, which sells Xbox 360 Memory Units with both higher capacities and lower prices than those made by Microsoft
