Red Dead Redemption has been on our radar for some time now, briefly piquing our interest back in 2005 before slipping into the night for a full four years and resurfacing before the Electronic Entertainment Expo last year. For the uninitiated, it’s an open-world third-person action game set in the dying days of America’s Wild West, in a massive expanse of wilderness straddling the US-Mexico border

Electronic Arts’ and DICE’s shooter opens big, on track to be March’s top seller; 2.9 million player hours logged in last day alone. Though it didn’t match the huge opening numbers of rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is keeping a lot of shooter fans company–2.3 million shooter fans, to be exact. Today publisher Electronic Arts announced that the game has gone double-platinum in the two weeks since its March 2 launch on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
