The Airsoft Skirmish Game has it’s roots in the higher-power skirmish game of paintball. There is some contention in the Airsoft community, as to when the first true ‘Airsoft’ model was marketed, but what is known, is that an American air gun manufacturer, Daisy, marketed what they called a Softair gun in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which fired a miniature 6mm hollow plastic shuttlecock-like projectile, and incredibly low speeds, from a toy gun. The intention, it would appear, was to develop a new market for its products. They succeeded, and a new generation of rifle shooters was born.

This series of softair guns are generally thought, on balance, to be the ancestors of what we now know as Airsoft models.

Shortly after Daisy marketed their softair guns, Tokyo Marui, then marketing self-assembly plastic replica gun kits, modified some of their designs to fire the same form of projectile. Within five or so years, they had all but halted production of the 1:1 replica kits, and gone into full-time production of virtually 1:1 self-assembly low powered ‘ASGK’ Airsoft kits, firing a new 6mm spherical plastic projectile. Within another five or so years, in the early 1990s, spring powered Airsoft models became ‘old news’, as the first generation of Automatic Electric Airsoft Guns, or AEGs, were marketed, not as self-assembly kits, but ready to use out-of-the-box models, of remarkable realism and accuracy to the real-world counterparts that they represented.

The rest is history, as well over ten main-stream manufacturers in Japan, Taiwan, and other p art s of the far east, have sprung up to supply a brand new hobby sport, that uses these models in mock-combat games, called Airsoft Skirmish Games.

So, now we know the history of the models, how about the game?

The original hobby sport combat game is, of course, paintball, and this has been so well documented over the years, that it would be redundant to go into its origins here. However, paintball is illegal in Japan , which has probably the strictest firearms laws on the planet. This means that no-one may own any form of firearm privately, without a great deal of red tape to comply with, making it, for all intents and purposes, a non-starter. The same applies to paintball markers, which, as I understand it, are classified as firearms in Japan .

However, the Japanese, due to their culture of group-led activities, do enjoy combat games. How they accomplished this prior to Airsoft models being manufactured is beyond me (do you know? PLEASE tell me!), but the introduction of these models gave them the edge they needed to develop the hobby sport, which they get involved in, in truly massive numbers; it’s not unusual for there to be well over 100 players at any given playing venue, on any given playing day, and well over 500 players at a competition/convention event!

The rules to the game originated in Japan . Similar to the Paintball Skirmish game, there are one or two major differences. Firstly, the Airsoft models have a much lesser range than paintball ‘markers’; second, there are no paint gel projectiles used in the Airsoft Skirmish game, thus an honor system predominates. The fact that paint is not used to mark your opponent could have been a major problem. However, since personal honor is a way of life and culture in Japan , an d disgrace follows a cheat in that country, they found that to get the rules to work, all they needed to do was rely on their innate codes of personal honor. Thus, if you were hit by an Airsoft projectile in a game, you were required to declare this, and remove yourself from the game. It worked, too, as cheating tends to spoil the fun of the game for every one else involved. The basic rules were, therefore:

You cannot use physical force, as the object of the game is to shoot the opposition, and have fun – it is, after all, only a game.

If you’re hit, you’re out of the game.

These are the rules that form the basis of the Airsoft Skirmish Game, and, for all practical purposes, have not changed one bit.

The game then grew, moving to Hong Kong , Korea , Taiwan , and the Philippines . It was then only a matter of time before other countries saw, and adopted the game. It appeared in America and Canada at about the same time, and Europe during the mid 1990s, but it is only in the last three to five years, that the hobby sport has started to thrive in the UK.

Now, in mid 2000 AD, there are well over twenty playing sites in the mainland UK alone, and more planned. However, the feature that appeals to the hobbyists most of all, is also the most controversial feature: the realistic nature of the models used in the game. It was therefore paramount to professional site operators that some checks and balances were imposed, in the form of self-regulation. This has resulted in an unwritten code of conduct, that, broadly speaking, mirrors air weapon rules. These unwritten rules appear to be codified into the following:

No one under the age of seventeen (18 in the USA – this text added by Strike Back Now 6-18-04) should be permitted to purchase an Airsoft model.

Airsoft models should NOT be shown in public places, and the Safety rules that apply to real air weapons and firearms should, in the most p art , apply to Airsoft models.

So far, then, this seems to be a good start , and would appear to work in the majority of cases. It remains to be seen if the APAC campaign will result in a more formal code of conduct for the UK Airsoft scene, but one lives in hope.

This, in mid 2000 AD, is where the hobby is at. A minor, but legal (if somewhat controversial to some), hobby sport, enjoyed by hundreds of people around the country. In any event, both the technology, and the hobby, appear to be here to stay – and long may that continue!

How to play:

To get started playing Airsoft all you really need is an Airsoft Gun (if it’s a spring gun) and some BBs. The most affordable guns start at under $20, so Airsoft is a hobby that virtually anyone can afford. Once you have a gun and some BBs, you can practice shooting at home against a target, you can shoot cans in your backyard, or anything like that. Airsoft guns are actually made to be able to shoot at other people safely, when proper safety precautions are taken (i.e. eye protection, body covering).

Gaming is a niche and powerful industry. It has caught in the users of all age segments. The industry is catching up.

With rise in gaming industry, the consumers keep waiting for the upcoming editions of the video games. The article below lists

various upcoming games:

Terminator Salvation
It is an upcoming third-person shooter action video game, slated for a release on May 19, 2009 to coincide with the release of the

upcoming film of the same name on the same week. It is being developed by the Halcyon Company’s gaming subsidiary, Halcyon

Games, along with GRIN. The game is scheduled to be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, mobile, and iPhone OS.

Terminator Salvation is a third person shooter where the player needs to constantly move, flank, cover and utilize their squad to

progress. The player must battle Skynet enemies from the upcoming film as well as new enemies specifically designed for the game.

Red Faction: Guerrilla
It is an upcoming third-person shooter video game in development by Volition, Inc. and published by THQ. The game is set to be

released June 2, 2009 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Windows platforms. The game is the third installment in the Red

Faction series.

In the gameplay of Red Faction: Guerrilla, the protagonist, Alec Mason, will be able to run, jump, hijack vehicles, and use weapons to

traverse across the open world of Mars and fight the EDF (Earth Defense Force). Weapons in the game will include: machine gun

turrets, rocket turrets, remote charges, a sledgehammer, machine guns, and many others.

Prototype
Prototype is an upcoming sandbox-style action game in development by Radical Entertainment and based on an original IP

developed in-house. The game is slated for release on June 9th, 2009 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Microsoft Windows.

The gameplay in Prototype is centered around Alex Mercer’s superhuman abilities. Alex has superhuman strength, speed, agility,

durability, and healing as well as the abilities of consuming his fallen enemies, shape-shifting his body and easily moving in an

open-world New York City environment.

Overlord II
Overlord II is an third-person action-adventure game developed by Triumph Studios and published by Codemasters for the Xbox 360,

Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3. It is the sequel to the 2007 video game Overlord and expected to be launch on June, 23.

The gameplay of the first game, which consisted of controlling the Overlord who in turn sent his minions to do most of the work, has

been retained for this sequel, but, it has been greatly expanded. The intelligence and destructiveness of the minions have been

improved and the new AI is able to do more things than before, such as riding mounts, using war machines and sailing warships.

The Conduit
It is a futuristic first-person shooter game under development by High Voltage Software for the Wii console and expected to launch on

June, 23. The Conduit was first revealed by IGN on April 17, 2008 and on October 29, 2008 the developer announced that Sega had

signed on to be the game’s official publisher.

High Voltage Software created the Quantum3 engine to make The Conduit a comparable experience visually to games on the

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 despite the Wii’s hardware limitations. The Conduit will also support the recently announced Wii Speak

peripheral, allowing online multiplayer gamers the ability to chat as they destroy aliens in each terrifying level.

The Conduit provides an experience typical of a first-person shooter, focusing on combat in a 3D environment and taking place from

the first-person perspective of a playable character.

Fight Night Round 4
Fight Night Round 4 is a boxing video game developed by EA Sports. It is the sequel to EA Sports’ previous boxing title, Fight Night

Round 3, released in 2006. The game is scheduled for release on June 30th, 2009 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Fight Night Round 4 will feature over 40 licensed fighters. There will be several new modes such as the Legacy Mode. The game’s

cover will feature Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.

Created accidenatlly, the Zapper’s new design is somewhat similar to wrap around slingshot. With its awesome new support style and easy aim targeting, The Zapper makes firing at the enemy a whole new experience. Quickly becoming another Wii mega-hit, Zapper is just another reason why Wii is climbing up to the top of the console charts. Check out some of these awesome Zapper games , and find out where you can download as many of them as you want.

Zapper Favorites

Here are just a few of the Zapper ready games that are frequently searched for on the web and many Wii games sites.

Links Crossbow training – The character from Zelda makes his name known as the title of Zappers complimentary game. Mainly used as the game where you can sharpen your skills, Links Crossbow Training is widely recommended as one of the funnest games and easier games available. But it is the game that comes with the Zapper so purchasing the Zapper means you will also own Links.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles – With the ability to go through many levels of Resident Evil past, this game gives the user every opportunity to fire off round after round at the evil zombies. With the “A” button being on top of the Zapper, and used quite frequently, it seems as though another shot at a Resident game with less “A” usage would be better served. But none the less, Umbrella Chronicles gives gamers tons of fast paced action. Great for those that love to see obscene amounts of bloodshed with “Dawn of the Dead” like shooting sprees.

Ghost Squad- Its a military type game for tracking down the enemy and completing the usual missions. Its definitely got that Wii game feel to it. More fun than graphic gratification, but for the shoot ‘em up genre its exactly what gamers want. Have fun exploring all the different side routes and hidden areas with the Ghost Squad.

Duck Hunt Updated- O.K., so its duck Hunt. But like the title says, its UPDATED. Way better graphics, way more fun. Besides, who didnt love the original. The new Duck Hunt comes with many different landscapes, all the best of down south hunting and other great worldly duck hunting grounds. Many have issues with the plain looking backgrounds and still, silent skies with the lack of any other elements. But shooting the ducks is still the same kind of fun that you would expect from shooting at criss crossing ducks that fly of into oblivion and drop out of the sky when blind sided by the blast of a Zapper enabled shot gun.

Medal of Honor (All Titles)-One of the best titles with or without the Zapper, the Medal of Honor series exploits the best aspects of the Zapper. Being able to fire off targeted, accurate rounds one after another makes the game experience much more realistic. There is nothing like standing up and keeping the Zapper aimed at your screen, waiting to end someones day with a blast from your weapon of choice. As always the military generation make known the advantages of using all the newest choices in hardware, such as headsets and the highly utilized “Mod Controller”. So when you see the majority of militant users racing to play the best Battle games with Zapper you know it must add tons more enjoyment to an already fantastic game.

Downloading Zapper Games

Check out my author box for a link to the best Wii Download site on the web for 3 years running. It has the largest database of Wii downloads available, and it comes with all the other Wii media downloads like, Music,Movies,YouTube and complete TV Shows and full seasons of your favorite programs.
