I have always used Canon printers and loved them, but this may be the last time. I held up this cartridge model and the one for my old i860 side by side and realized that the new ones hold about 25% less ink (though are no cheaper). Don’t tell me this isn’t intentional on the part of Canon. Although the ink works fine and the print quality is great, the cartridges run out shockingly fast. I just printed out about fifty 5″x 7″ images using all colors, and a new blue cartridge has already triggered the “low ink” warning emblem. Second, it is such a pain trying to figure out which cartridges are compatible. The cartridges for my new MP620 looked so similar to the ones for my old i860, and I spent a frustrating hour on the Canon website and on the web without finding any information on whether it is safe to interchange them. I noticed another reviewer mentioned that there was incomplete compatibility listing on the cartridge packaging as well. The cartridges for older models look virtually the same and yet apparently are incompatible; I consider this a design flaw because the fact that Canon has not standardized their cartridges among the printer models means that twice now, when the printers have died, I’ve been stuck with expensive, incompatible cartridges. If anyone from Canon reads this, PLEASE get your act together — there is no excuse for ink being this complicated, and you shouldn’t be shortchanging loyal customers by decreasing the longevity of the already very expensive inks. Next time I get a printer I will be carefully researching which manufacturer provides the best ink cartridge longevity.

I bought a Canon PIXMA MX330 from Amazon and later bought this ink PGI-220 from Amazon. Amazon has “buy together” feature and also another “compatibility note” below each ink listing that tells if its the correct ink. I ended up buying the wrong ink because of that. You need PG-210XL ink for MX330 not this one. Canon PG-210XL Cartridge (Black)
The page for PGI-220 still tells me its compatible with the printer I bought from Amazon. Great features if they work, too bad if they don’t! Its past the return date and the item’s out of the box.

I do very little B/W printing and almost no color. I am shocked at how fast the ink gets used up. I’m sure this has to be the self cleaning it does because it certainly isn’t from the one or so documents I print/week. This printer is a complete rip off when you need to keep buying ink just so it can clean itself. I’ve had other ink jets that are not like this.

As usual you pay more than you get with these ink cartridges from Canon. They perform well, but no better than generic ink cartridges despite the warnings that Canon and their ilk exclaim. unfortunately, there are no generic cartridges available for my printer (yet). As soon as they become available I will buy those.

So far I love this printer. The pictures I print absolutely look ever bit as good as going to Walmart. I love the fact that I don’t have to waste ink. Each color has it’s own seperate cartridge. As I watch the ink levels decrease at a much different rate, I can see how much I wasted by having the all in one color cartridge on my old printer. On this printer you only replace one color at a time. This printer is very easy to use. I had no trouble learning how to use it. I like the fact that the paper is hidden underneath and the door opens automatically whenever you print. It also has a paper holder in the back of the printer that you lift up and position to hold photo paper so you don’t have to remove the regular paper. I like that. I also like the fact that it has a card reader built in and I can print pictures right from the camera card. Don’t need to go through the computer. I am so glad I read the reviews and checked it out in comsumer reports. This printer had the best rating.
It is tops for the money.
